Position Description

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department offers extremely competitive benefits in addition to the annual salary. These benefits however are subject to change.

• 3 weeks of annual vacation; 104 hours of annual sick leave; 13 paid holidays per year.
• 3 bonus shifts per year if no more than 3 days of sick leave are used; and three personal days per year.
• Holiday compensation for working a holiday at straight time pay or additional annual leave.
• Direct deposit of paychecks; deferred compensation plan is available.
• Nevada has no state income tax and employees do not pay social security taxes.
• Employees will have 1.45% of their salary deducted for Medicare and this amount is matched by LVMPD.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is negotiated through a collective bargaining agreement.

*** All new employees will be hired at step three of the salary range ($72716.80 annually) and will be eligible for merit increases until reaching the maximum salary in the range.***

Definition
Incumbents troubleshoot and diagnose aircraft maintenance problems and perform duties related to routine maintenance structural repairs rebuilding and/or upgrading of major aircraft components and systems and keeping of maintenance records.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Training Education and Experience

• Three years of increasingly responsible maintenance and repair experience as an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician; or
• Five years of increasingly responsible maintenance and repair experience in the United States military on Helicopter/Rotor Wing Aircraft and currently an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training and classes in helicopter and aircraft repair.
• Possession of a current Airframe and Powerplant Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Candidates will be required to submit a copy in the form of an attachment (both front and back) of this Certificate with the online application.
• Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Nevada drivers license.
• Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument
• Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument

Best Candidates Will Have

• Maintenance experience on MD500/MD530 series and Airbus H125 H135 H145 series helicopters.
• Avionics experience.
• Specialized training and classes in helicopter repair.
• Familiarity with the Digital Airware Aviation Management Software program.

Conditions of Employment

In addition to the General Conditions of Employment found here the following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position.

1. Personal Appearance: While on duty and/or representing the Department uniformed or otherwise all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching affixing or displaying objects articles or jewelry on or through the nose tongue eyebrow or other exposed body part except the ears for females while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or gauging their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands neck head or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination indecency extremist or supremacist philosophies lawlessness violence or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
2. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
3. Be available for callouts.
4. Be available for working shifts holidays and weekends or irregular work hours.
5. Maintain a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate and Nevada drivers license;
6. Possess a complete set of aircraft mechanic tools; and
7. Must not have incurred any FAA suspensions/revocations.
8. Vision sufficient to read an aircrafts control board computer screen and fine prints in documents.
9. Color vision sufficient to distinguish among colored power and signal cables and color indicators on an aircrafts control board.
10. Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone and radio.
11. Dexterity and mobility sufficient to operate inside of and perform maintenance tasks in an aircraft operate standard office equipment and motorized vehicles; climb ladders and stairs; work indoor and outdoor including the office and maintenance shop.
12. Agility sufficient to bend twist crawl stoop squat kneel stretch and reach overhead forward and backward rotate neck and trunk.
13. Endurance sufficient to stand and move around for long periods of time to work in the repair shop; sit at personal computer terminals.
14. Strength sufficient to lift carry and shelve aircraft parts and related items weighing up to 50 lbs.

These qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the remainder of the testing process set forth below. Applicants will be notified of the results of the screening process via email. Exam Dates*

Exam #1: LVMPD Air Support Hangar Tour/Seminar (Optional) - Monday January 5 2026 at 10:00 am (PST)
Exam #2: Practical Exam (Weighted 40%) - Tuesday January 6 2026
Exam #3: Oral Board Exam (Weighted 60%) - Wednesday January 7 2026

*The LVMPD reserves the right to modify the selection processes and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal ethical and professional standards.

**Due to security reasons personal belongings permitted in the testing facility will be limited. Items such as large backpacks briefcases duffle bags or similar items may not be allowed. Those items permitted will be left to the discretion of the LVMPD employees administering the examination and may be subject to a search.
